IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR STUDENTS:
As a result of the COVID-19 crisis, all ESL courses will be delivered online at their scheduled times, including both real-time class meetings using Zoom (synchronous) and self-directed online learning using Moodle (asynchronous).
Students are expected to attend scheduled (synchronous) class meetings; however, exceptional circumstances will be considered and accommodated based on consultation with the instructor.
Please note that class room numbers are assigned in case face to face classes resume in the winter (W) term – a decision about the W term will be made by the university before January.

York University offers a range of ESL credit courses that help students develop the knowledge and skills they need to be successful in their degree programs at York. Some courses count as General Education courses where students can explore Canadian issues and the English language while further developing English and academic communication skills.
ESL credit courses are taught by faculty who are specialists in English language teaching/learning and Applied Linguistics. ESL faculty are involved in a range of research and projects that include examining ways to make English language teaching and learning more effective.
York's ESL section is interdisciplinary in its focus and works across the university to meet the emerging needs of the varied English language learners at York.
